Welcome to the Site of the Living Dead

A fan of zombie movies? Me too! I have watched many and reviewed them here in order to recommend, (or to NOT recommend!) them to those seeking to see one. I have focused on the more obscure titles since anyone looking for zombie movies has probably already seen Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of The Dead, Zombi, Shawn of the Dead, and Return of the Living Dead.
And if you haven't, then you should... Now!

Flight Of The Living Dead: Outbreak On A Plane, 2007

I went into this not expecting much, and discovered that I need to do that more. It really allows me to be pleasantly surprised.

So, some scientists attempt to bring a cryogenically frozen, infected woman onboard a plane to escape the U.S. government when a severe storm system disrupts the plane’s electricals and havoc ensues. Basic synopsis.

There are many sub-plots and character-development story lines including the aforementioned desperate scientists, as well as some frisky flight attendants, a retiring pilot, an escorted prisoner, some truly obnoxious young couples, and a golf pro and his wife.

In such a small environment contamination comes fast and frantic, with infection rates going from bitten to dead to undead in a matter of seconds. Fortunately, that escorting police officer and the TSA Agent on board really over-packed their non-airplane-hull piercing bullets for this routine flight.

So we get LOTS of gunfire, plenty of screaming, and a surprisingly large number of places to hide aboard a big ol’ jet airliner. One would think that the armed survivors could simply clear the dead and be heroes, right. Um, well, sadly, the government has learned about the cargo and is launching some “shoot ‘em down” missions if there is no proof of anyone on board.

There you go. That’s yer basic premise. Now for the analysis: The “zombies” are almost identical to the World War Z undead, chittering, screaming, running kind of munchers. If you were a fan of that, you would probably get a kick out of this.

I have no complaints about the acting, and this had a decent-sized production, so none of those little small-budget allowances. The storyline is fairly straightforward, despite those little suspensions of reality, ( but, I guess, the concept of a zombie outbreak carries its own suspension of reality, so nitpicking must really only address the overt.)

In the end, I found this to be one of those stupid, fun, zombie flicks that isn’t too grating or needs excuses made for it. It was easy to watch, enjoyable, and a few good decent scares among many cool WTF moments.

My ever-objective Zombie Movie Rubric proved this to be so, with a ZR rating of 2.125 out of a possible 4.0, (not a bad GPA for your average zombie flick!)

A trailer for this can be ‘Tubed up at FLIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.

And no, there is no Sam Jackson saying how he was “sick of these MoFo* zombies on this Mofo* plane.” But I can’t imagine how that more well-known serpentine equivalent could be much better than this.

P.S. This is currently available in its full-length, HD glory on YouTube! So, if my description of it scratches you where you itch, you might not want to drag your feet to queuing it up over there! Roger that.

My Zombie Movie Reviews Rubric

In order to fairly 'grade' a Zombie film, I use the following nine criteria points. It is not a perfect system, but it does keep me...
